Editing collection details and layout

You can edit a collection's name or description, select a different featured image, and change the display order of a collection's products on your online store.

Edit the name of a collection

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection that you want to edit.

  3. Click the existing title, and then enter your new title.

  4. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Products icon

  2. Tap the Products drop-down menu, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap a collection that you want to edit.

  4. Tap the existing title, and then enter your new title.

  5. Tap Save or ✓.

Edit the description of a collection

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection that you want to edit.

  3. Click the existing description, and then enter your new description.

  4. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Products icon

  2. Tap the Products drop-down menu, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap a collection that you want to edit.

  4. Tap the existing description, enter your new description, and then tap Save or ✓.

  5. Tap Save or ✓.

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection that you want to edit.

  3. Hover over the image that you want to change, and then click … > Change image.

  4. Select the image that you want to use, and then click Done.

  5. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Products icon

  2. Tap the Products drop-down menu, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap a collection that you want to edit.

  4. Tap the image that you want to change.

  5. Tap … or ⋮, and then tap Remove.

  6. Tap Remove.

  7. Tap Add a poster image, and then find and select the image that you want to use.

  8. Tap Save or ✓.

Change the sort order for the products in a collection

When a collection is featured on your online store, the products in that collection are displayed in the sort order that you set. Products are sorted by Most relevant by default when you create a new collection.

Select from the following sorting options for the order in which products are displayed in collections on your online store:

  • Sort by your most relevant products based on sales performance.
  • Sort by your best selling products based on the all-time number of orders that include the product. If you haven't sold any products yet, then this option sorts your products from newest to oldest.
  • Sort by product title in alphabetical order or reverse alphabetical order.
  • Sort by the highest or lowest product price.
  • Sort by oldest or newest products based on the date that products were created.
  • Sort manually based on your own preferences.

For viewing a collection in your Shopify admin, the products are displayed in paginated lists of 60 products per page in the Collection items section. You can view the products as either a list or in columns. When you choose the columns display, you can select to view the products in 3, 4, 5, or 6 columns.

Steps:

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection that you want to edit.

  3. In the Collection items section, click the Default sort drop-down menu, and then select a different sort order.

  4. Optional: If you select Manually, then you can rearrange your products in the following ways:

    • Click and hold a product to drag it to a new position in the collection.
    • Select the products that you want to rearrange, and then do any of the following:
      • To move products to the top of the collection, click the Move drop-down menu, and then click To the beginning.
      • To move products to the bottom of the collection, click the Move drop-down menu, and then click To the end.
      • To move products to a specific place in the collection:
        1. Click the Move drop-down menu.
        2. In the To position field, enter a number for the position in the collection that you want to move the products to.
        3. Click Move.

  5. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Products icon

  2. Tap the Products drop-down menu, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap a collection that you want to edit.

  4. In the Collection items section, tap View all.

  5. Tap the Default sort order drop-down menu, and then select a different sort order.

  6. Optional: If you select Manual, then you can rearrange your products in the following ways:

    • Tap and hold a product to drag it to a new position in the collection.
    • Select the products that you want to rearrange, and then do any of the following:
      • To move products to the top of the collection, tap Move items, and then tap Move to top.
      • To move products to the bottom of the collection, tap Move items, and then tap Move to bottom.

  7. On the View items page, tap Save or ✓.

  8. On the collection details page, tap Save or ✓.
