Two-step authentication using SMS text messages
You can set up your mobile device to receive a one-time six-digit code that's sent in an SMS text message to your mobile device when you log in to your account. You'll need to manually enter this code in addition to your other credentials.
When you receive the SMS message, it says: "Enter XXXXXX as your Shopify authentication code" where XXXXXX is your six-digit code.

From your Shopify admin, click your store name in the top bar.
Click your profile, and then click Security.
In the Two-step authentication section, click Turn on two-step.
Enter your password, and then click Next.
From the Authentication method list, select SMS delivery.
Select a country code, and then enter your phone number.

Check your mobile phone for an SMS text message.
Retrieve the six-digit code from the text message, and then enter it under CHECK YOUR PHONE.
Click Turn on.
Optional: Create a backup authentication method that you can use in case your primary authentication method is unavailable.
Save your recovery codes in case you're unable to use your primary or backup authentication method. Make sure that you store or save the recovery codes in multiple ways, including the following examples:
- in a local file on your mobile device, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer
- in a password manager platform, such as LastPass or 1Password
- in a cloud storage location that you use
- on a printed or handwritten document
Now when you try to log in, you require your mobile phone for two-step authentication.
You can add one or more different phone numbers as a backup authentication method.
Update your phone number for two-step authentication using SMS text messages in Shopify
If the phone number you're using for two-step authentication using SMS text messages has changed, then you can update it from your Shopify admin. Updating your phone number requires removing your current SMS method, so you'll be prompted to complete a two-step authentication challenge.
If you can't receive the SMS code and don't have recovery codes, then you can use an alternative method such as a passkey or authenticator app to verify your account. If you don't have any alternative methods and your account doesn't require a secure sign-in method, then you can deactivate two-step authentication to regain access to your account. If your account requires a secure sign-in method, then you can recover your account by verifying your identity. Your request is reviewed before access is restored.

From your Shopify admin, click your store name in the top bar.
