Supported payout currencies

Various payout currencies are available through Shopify Payments, depending on your store's location. The payout currencies available to you depend on which country or region your store is based in. Your domestic currency is determined by your store location, and additional non-domestic currencies might be available depending on your Shopify plan.

Domestic vs. non-domestic currencies

Your domestic currency is determined by your Shopify Payments region and is the default currency for your payouts. Understanding the difference between domestic and non-domestic currencies helps you determine which fees might apply to your payouts.

Currency conversion and exchange rates

When a customer pays in a currency that's different from your payout currency, a currency exchange rate and conversion fee are applied at the time of payment capture. If you issue a refund, then the refund is processed at the current exchange rate, and no conversion fees are charged for refunds.

In the Payments section of your Shopify admin, you can track the current exchange rates and view historical exchange rates used for specific orders in the order's timeline.

Adding payout currencies

If your country and Shopify plan support Multi-Currency Payouts, then you can add bank accounts in supported non-domestic currencies to receive payouts in those currencies. To receive payouts in an additional currency, you must have a payout account in that currency added to the Shopify Payments section of your Shopify admin. For example, to receive payouts in US dollars (USD) with a Canada-based store, you need to add a bank account that accepts USD to your Shopify admin.

Shopify Payments regions and available payout currencies

The payout currencies that you can choose depend on the location that you've entered in the General settings in your Shopify admin. Some regions have one currency available, but others can have up to 8 bank accounts in non-domestic currencies using Multi-Currency Payouts, depending on your location and Shopify plan. Your domestic currency and available non-domestic payout currencies are determined by your store location. Payouts to your domestic currency bank account aren't charged a Multi-Currency Payout fee, but payouts to non-domestic currency bank accounts are charged a Multi-Currency Payout fee based on your plan and region.
