Managing your POS app subscription
Shopify POS is an app that allows you to sell your products in various locations, including brick and mortar stores, markets, and pop-up stores. The POS app syncs with Shopify to track your orders and inventory across your retail locations, online store, and other active sales channels. All paid Shopify subscription plans include some in-person selling features, but you can add extra retail features by subscribing to Shopify POS Pro for an additional monthly cost per location.
This article provides instructions on how to manage your POS app subscription for each location, allowing you to choose the subscription that best suits your retail needs.

There are 2 Shopify POS feature sets to fit your retail needs:
- The in-person selling features that are available to all paid Shopify subscription plans, available at no extra cost.
- Shopify POS Pro, a subscription add-on available to any Shopify plan for an additional monthly cost per POS location. You can add Shopify POS Pro to specific locations to leverage the additional features only at the locations where they're required.
For more information on pricing, refer to POS pricing. For more information on features, refer to POS features.
To compare the features offered between the in-person selling features included with your Shopify paid plan and Shopify POS Pro, refer to the following table:

If you're the account owner, then you can select your POS subscriptions by location to ensure that your stores have the subscription that best suits their needs. If you're on the Retail, Basic, Grow, or Advanced plans, then you can also choose between a monthly or yearly billing cycle. If you're on the Shopify Plus plan, then you can only choose a 30-day billing cycle.
The default in-person selling features included in your paid plan can be used with any Shopify plan at no extra cost. For an additional monthly cost per location, the Shopify POS Pro subscription plan has extra retail features for sales transactions, inventory management, sales reports, and staff management.
If you want to transfer your POS Pro subscription from one location to another, then you need to contact Shopify Support.

Considerations for POS Pro subscriptions
Review the following considerations before subscribing to Shopify POS Pro:
Billing cycle timing
POS Pro uses an app billing cycle that starts when you activate the subscription and runs for 30 days. This cycle is separate from your Shopify plan billing cycle. If you upgrade or downgrade your POS Pro subscription during a billing cycle, then the changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.
Refund eligibility
To request a refund for POS Pro, downgrade the location from POS Pro to in-person selling features by managing your POS subscription. You don't need to cancel your Shopify store to get a POS Pro refund.
Refunds for POS Pro subscriptions are available only if you downgrade within specific timeframes. For monthly billing, you can request a refund within 7 days of your billing cycle start date. For annual billing, you can request a refund within 30 days of your annual billing date. After these windows, you're not eligible for a prorated refund.
New locations
If you add a new location to your store after your POS Pro trial period ends, then the new location automatically assigns to use the in-person selling features. It doesn't receive a separate POS Pro trial. To activate POS Pro on the new location, manage your POS subscription and upgrade the location. The cost for the new location is prorated based on the remainder of your current billing cycle.
Location transfers
You can't transfer a POS Pro subscription from one location to another on your own. If you manually cancel POS Pro on one location and activate it on another, then you'll be billed separately for both locations. To transfer a POS Pro subscription between locations without additional charges, contact Shopify Support.
Billing schedule
All locations on POS Pro must use the same billing schedule (monthly or annual). If you change from monthly to annual billing, then the change applies immediately with proration. If you change from annual to monthly billing, then the change defers to the end of your annual billing cycle.
Trial period
After your POS Pro trial ends, you must manually select POS Pro to continue using it. If you don't select POS Pro before your trial ends, then your locations automatically revert to using the in-person selling features at no extra cost.
