Using the checkout and accounts editor

The checkout and accounts editor is a tool that lets you customize and edit the functionality and the appearance of your checkout, order status page, thank you page, and customer accounts pages in a single place that's separate from your theme editor.

You can access the checkout and accounts editor in the Settings > Checkout section of your Shopify admin. In the Configurations section, click Customize on the checkout configuration that you want to customize to open the checkout and accounts editor. You can customize both live and draft checkout configurations.

Navigating the checkout and accounts editor sidebar

The checkout and accounts editor has the following sidebars:

  • In the Sections Icon Sections sidebar, you can customize the functionality of your checkout, order status page, thank you page, and customer accounts pages.
  • In the Settings Icon Settings sidebar, you can customize the appearance of your checkout, order status, thank you, and customer accounts pages.
  • In the Apps Icon Apps sidebar, you can add and search for apps to customize the functionality of your checkout, order status, thank you, and customer accounts pages.

To access the sidebars of the checkout and accounts editor, click the appropriate icon in the menu bar:

Previewing and customizing checkout and accounts pages for markets

If you've created at least one market, then you can adapt your checkout and accounts pages for your different markets. Adapting your checkout and accounts pages for specific markets helps you to create a better experience for customers in those markets.

Checkout and accounts pages

You can access and preview all of your checkout configuration's pages from the page selector in the top bar of the checkout and accounts editor.

You can access and customize the following checkout pages, depending on your checkout layout:

  • Checkout (available only for one-page checkouts), which includes the contact information, delivery and shipping details, as well as payment information during checkout.
  • Information (available only for three-page checkouts), which includes the contact information, delivery methods, and shipping address details.
  • Shipping (available only for three-page checkouts), which includes the available shipping methods for the order.
  • Payment (available only for three-page checkouts), which includes the payment information and billing address details.
  • Review, the page for the optional order review step before the customer completes the checkout. This option displays only when the Require a confirmation step setting is active.
  • Thank you, the post-purchase page that displays to customers after completing the checkout. The Thank you page displays only one time, after which the customer can use the Order status page to check on their order.

You can access and customize the following customer accounts pages:

  • Order status, which displays details about the customer's order. Customers can visit this page multiple times. Learn more about the order status page.
  • Orders, which displays a list of a customer account's order history.
  • Profile, which displays a customer account's profile details, such as name, contact information, and shipping addresses.
  • Sign-in, which displays the customer sign-in page that customers use to access their account.

You can also open the theme editor by clicking Online store theme.

Previewing Shop Pay

If you have Shop Pay activated in your Shopify admin, then you can preview how the Shop Pay accelerated checkout is displayed to your customers. To preview Shop Pay, click the checkout icon at the top right corner of the checkout and accounts editor, and then select Preview Shop Pay.

To switch back to previewing the checkout, click the Shop Pay icon at the top right corner of the checkout and accounts editor, and then select Edit checkout.

Undoing and redoing actions

You can use the undo and redo buttons to undo or redo unsaved customizations. After you save your changes, you can no longer redo or undo.

If there are no unsaved customizations to redo, undo, or both, then the corresponding button is greyed out.

Previewing your checkout, order status, thank you, and customer accounts pages

You can preview how your customizations display on the checkout, order status, thank you, and customer accounts pages by using the page selector menu. Click the page selector and then choose from the available Checkout, Thank you, Order status, Orders, and Profile options.

You can also click Online store theme to open the theme editor and customize your currently published theme.

You can preview how your checkout, order status, thank you, and customer accounts pages display on a mobile screen by clicking the mobile button in the menu bar. Click the mobile button again to return to the desktop preview.

Preview inspector

The preview inspector allows you to navigate to sections and blocks directly from the preview window and find the corresponding settings faster and more intuitively. With the preview inspector, you can reorder, hide, or duplicate sections and blocks right from your preview window.

The preview inspector is available for all checkout configurations, and is activated by default. You can click the Preview inspector button to turn the preview inspector on or off during your editing session.

Using additional actions

Click the configuration name to open a drop-down menu that lets you do the following actions:

  • Use view View to preview how your checkout, order status, thank you, and customer accounts pages are displayed to your customers.
  • Use Rename Rename to rename your checkout and accounts configuration.
  • Use documentation View documentation to open the documentation for customizing and editing checkout and accounts pages.
  • Use question Get support to get support from the Shopify Help Center.
