Configuring third-party payment providers
If you're not using Shopify Payments and you want to accept credit cards, then you can choose from over 100 credit card payment providers for your Shopify store.
You can activate or change a payment provider from the Payments page of your Shopify admin. Depending on the requirements of the payment provider, you might be required to submit and verify your bank account information with them so that your store can complete transactions. Contact your payment provider to confirm whether or not you can accept payments from your customers before providing your bank account information.

Troubleshoot PayPal Express Checkout and PayPal Wallet
PayPal is available in two configurations depending on your store's location and whether Shopify Payments is active:
- PayPal Express Checkout is configured in the Additional payment methods section, not in the third-party provider list. To set up PayPal Express Checkout, follow the steps to finish setting up your PayPal account.
- PayPal Wallet is available to merchants in the United States and France who use Shopify Payments. If you're in one of these regions and have Shopify Payments active, then PayPal isn't available in the Additional payment methods section, it's integrated through Shopify Payments instead. Learn more about PayPal Wallet for the United States or PayPal Wallet for France.
Troubleshoot buy now, pay later and alternative payment methods
The third-party provider list in your Shopify admin is filtered based on your store's address in Settings > General. If a provider you expect to find isn't listed, then verify that your store address matches the country or region where the provider operates.
Some providers, including regional payment methods, are also configured in the Additional payment methods section rather than through the third-party provider selector. To add these providers, follow the steps to activate additional payment methods.
Troubleshoot credit card payment providers
The path to add a credit card provider depends on your store's Shopify Payments status. Follow the steps to activate a credit card payment provider.
If a provider isn't listed in any of these locations, then check the payment gateways page to verify whether it's available in your region.
Adding a payment provider using ActiveMerchant
Previously, it was possible to integrate a payment gateway with Shopify using ActiveMerchant. Though this method is no longer used to integrate payment gateways with Shopify, the GitHub project is still free and available to developers who want to use it with other projects.
