Displaying and selling products in Shop
If your products are published to the Shop channel or are part of the Shopify Catalog, and your store meets the eligibility requirements in the Shop Merchant Guidelines, then your products are automatically discoverable in the Shop app, on the Shop website, and through agentic shopping experiences such as the Shop App for ChatGPT, regardless of whether you've installed the Shop channel.
Your products are available to purchase in either of the following ways, depending on whether you've published them to the Shop channel:
- Shop channel: Products published to the Shop channel can be purchased directly in Shop.
- Online Store channel only: Shopify Catalog products published only to the Online Store channel are discoverable in Shop as listings, and customers are redirected to your online store to make purchases.
By default, products on your Shop Store display an estimated delivery date. You can deactivate this feature in your Shop settings.
Turn off direct selling in Shop
If you don't want customers to purchase your products directly through Shop, including in the Shop app and Shop website, then you can change your selling method to link to your online store. After you change your selling method, your products remain discoverable in Shop, but customers are directed to your online store to make a purchase.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > Shop.
Click Settings.
In the Sell with Shop section, select the Link to online store selling method.
Opt back in to direct selling in Shop
You can opt back in to direct selling in Shop at any time.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > Shop.
Click Settings.
In the Sell with Shop section, select the Sell directly in Shop selling method.
Offer in-store returns for Shop orders
If you use self-serve returns and have a retail location, then you can activate Allow customers to return orders to physical store locations in your Shop sales channel settings. Customers who buy through the Shop app can request an in-store return and complete the return at your store using a QR code.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > Shop.
Click Settings.
In the Self-serve returns section, activate Allow customers to return orders to physical store locations.
Shop search
Shop search uses ranking systems to help customers quickly find relevant and useful results in the Shop app and the Shop website. In order for your products to display in Shop search, your store must meet the following requirements:
- Meet the eligibility requirements in the Shop Merchant Guidelines.
- Have a custom domain connected.
- Have a custom store name.
- Have a long history of selling on Shopify, a consistent volume of orders, and positive customer reviews. This helps ensure that products recommended in the Shop app meet quality standards. These specific standards aren't precise, as Shopify's methods for measuring quality are always evolving.
Improve your Shop search visibility
Products display in search results based on the most relevant results to a customer. Your store displays in Shop search results whenever a customer searches for your exact store name. You can take the following actions to help improve your store's visibility in Shop search:
