Collection layout and appearance

You can edit a collection's name or description, change its featured image, or change the display order of its products. If you've created custom templates for your collection page, then you can also use a different template. Before you update a collection, you can check the top of the page to determine whether another staff is also making changes to the same collection.

Edit the name of a collection

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click the collection that you want to edit.

  3. In the Title field, enter a new name for your collection.

  4. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. In the Products menu, tap the arrow down icon, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap the collection that you want to edit.

  4. Tap the collection name, and then enter a new name for your collection.

  5. Tap Save or ✓.

Edit the description of a collection

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click the collection that you want to edit.

  3. In the Description field, enter a new description for your collection.

  4. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. In the Products menu, tap the arrow down icon, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap the collection that you want to edit.

  4. Edit your collection's description:

    • If your collection has a description, then tap the description, and then enter a new description.
    • If your collection doesn't have a description, then tap Add description, and then enter a description.

  5. Tap Save or ✓.

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click the collection that you want to edit.

  3. In the Image section, click Add image.

  4. Add an existing or a new image:

    • To add an existing image, select an image, and then click Done.
    • To add a new image, click Add images or drag and drop an image, and then click Done.

  5. Click Save.

iPhone

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. In the Products menu, tap the arrow down icon, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap the collection that you want to edit.

  4. Tap Add image.

  5. Add your image using one of the following ways:

    • To add an image from your device's photos, tap the image icon.
    • To take a photo using your device's camera, tap Camera.
    • To add an image from your device's files, tap Files app.

  6. Tap Save.

Android

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. In the Products menu, tap the arrow down icon, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap the collection that you want to edit.

  4. Tap Add image.

  5. Add your image using one of the following ways:

    • To add an image from your device's photos, tap Photos app.
    • To take a photo using your device's camera, tap Photo camera.
    • To add an image from your device's files, tap Files app.

  6. Tap ✓.

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click the collection that you want to edit.

  3. In the Image section, click Edit, and then click Change image.

  4. Add an existing or a new image:

    • To add an existing image, select an image, and then click Done.
    • To add a new image, click Add images or drag and drop an image, and then click Done.

  5. Click Save.

iPhone

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. In the Products menu, tap the arrow down icon, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap the collection that you want to edit.

  4. Tap the image.

  5. Tap …, and then tap Remove.

  6. Tap Remove.

  7. Tap Add image.

  8. Add a new image using one of the following ways:

    • To add an image from your device's photos, tap the image icon.
    • To take a photo using your device's camera, tap Camera.
    • To add an image from your device's files, tap Files app.

  9. Tap Save.

Android

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. In the Products menu, tap the arrow down icon, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap the collection that you want to edit.

  4. Tap the image.

  5. Tap ⋮, and then tap Remove.

  6. Tap REMOVE.

  7. Tap Add image.

  8. Add your image using one of the following ways:

    • To add an image from your device's photos, tap Photos app.
    • To take a photo using your device's camera, tap Photo camera.
    • To add an image from your device's files, tap Files app.

  9. Tap ✓.

Change the sort order for the products in a collection

When a collection is featured in an online store, the products in that collection display in the sort order that you set. Products are sorted by Most relevant by default when you create a new collection. Products display in paginated lists of 60 products per page in the Products section of a collection in your Shopify admin.

Select from the following sorting options:

  • Relevancy: Sort products based on sales performance.
  • Best selling: Sort products based on the all-time number of orders that include the product. If you haven't sold any products yet, then this option sorts your products from newest to oldest.
  • Product title: Sort products in alphabetical order or reverse alphabetical order.
  • Highest or lowest price: Sort products based on highest or lowest product price.
  • Newest or oldest: Sort products based on the date that the product was created.
  • Manually: Sort products based on your own preferences.

Steps:

Desktop

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. Click a collection that you want to edit.

  3. In the Products section, click the Sort dropdown menu, and then select a sort order.

  4. Optional: If you select Manually, then you can rearrange your products in the following ways:

    • Click the ⠿ icon, and then drag the products in the list to rearrange them.
    • Select the products that you want to rearrange, and then do any of the following:
      • To move the products to the top of the collection:
        1. In the Move products to drop-down menu, select Top.
        2. Click Move.
      • To move the products to the bottom of the collection:
        1. In the Move products to drop-down menu, select Bottom.
        2. Click Move.
      • To move the products to a specific place in the collection list:
        1. In the Move products to drop-down menu, select Position.
        2. Enter a number for the position in the collection that you want to move the products to.
        3. Click Move.

  5. Click Save.

Mobile

  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. In the Products menu, tap the arrow down icon, and then tap Collections.

  3. Tap the collection that you want to edit.

  4. In the Products section, tap Sort by, and then select a sort order.

  5. Optional: If you select the Manually set order sort order, then you can rearrange your products:

    1. Tap Reorder.
    2. Tap the ⠿ icon, and then drag the products in the list to rearrange them.
    3. Tap Save or ✓.
